Fried Green Tomatoes – pretty much the definition of Southern comfort. My Aunt Deb showed us how to fry them to golden perfection in our recent visit to the Midwest. Funny, they almost taste like fish (fish n chips type of fish) and definitely make you feel right at home. These are great on their own or topped off with your favorite sauce.
This is the classic fried green tomatoes recipe so grab your green tomatoes and here’s what you’ll need (it’s really simple!):
- Salt and Pepper
Aren’t recipes like this the best? Bet you have all these ingredients waiting for you. Having a hard time finding green tomatoes? Honestly, maybe you better start a little veggie patch. Tomatoes grow fast and anywhere. Pick them when they’re green!
Slice your tomatoes in not-too-thin-not-too-thick slices. Deb’s slicing is impressive – look at those perfect slices!
Whisk your egg and prepare the dipping trays with ample flour, breadcrumbs and whisked egg.
Now the dipping process. Flour, Egg, Breadcrumbs. Aim for an even cover.
Make sure your oils hot and fry those green tomatoes!
And we’re done! You want your fried green tomatoes to look like this or a little darker (to taste). That’s it! Such a lovely meal, enjoy!
